With the basic fundamentals of programming mostly covered, this week served as an introduction to the Phaser framework that I will be using over the next few weeks in order to develop a 2D prototype that is to then be subjected to testing and analysis before the project’s deadline of 25/11.
Throughout the rest of the week I dedicated a substantial amount of time to experimenting with Phaser, attempting to gauge it’s capabilities so I could make informed judgements when formulating my game’s concept.
Moving forward with ideation, I ultimately decided upon a game inspired by the likes of Phasmophobia, Pac-Man, and the movie franchise Ghostbusters. The game will see the player take control of a ghost hunter in a mansion, searching for physical evidence that would corroborate claims that the mansion is haunted.
So far, I have come up with three primary mechanics- the first being evidence items that will be scattered around the level, the player will have to interact with these objects in order to uncover evidence. Secondly, the player will be under constant pressure from waves of ghosts that will damage the player upon coming into contact. Finally, in order to defend themselves from these waves, the player will wield a weapon reminiscent of the proton pack.
